You have all been dying with curiosity to know who our next TwilightMOM of the Month was going to be, weren't you? Well, the wait is over, and as I promised, she is something special! What better way to start the summer off right, than by spotlighting for June, our very own ray of sunshine and energy? She is a TMs administrator, the creator and brains behind the entire Spotlight Forum, wife, mom, genuinely nice person and one loaded cannon full of energy; if you haven't guessed it by now, let me introduce to you, TwilightMOMs June Spotlight Mom, Britten aka EndlessTwilight! Congratulations Britten!!!

Image

So let's find out a little bit about this very hard working TwilightMOM:

314: Where did you grow up?

Britten: I was born in Provo, UT, lived in a little place called Wymount my first year of life while my parents finished school at BYU, then moved to Portland, Oregon (YAY for Twilight the movie!!) and lived there until I was 4, then moved to Fresno, CA which is where my parents both grew up and met years and years before. Then I spent all my school years in Fresno and Clovis.

Image

Adorably pretty as a young girl, and still are to this day!

What were you like as a small child/elementary school?

I was super shy and HATED getting into trouble so I was my teachers' dream student. I got straight As, obeyed all the rules and hated speaking up in class or having to read out loud. Not because I couldn't read very well but because when I read I soak up every single word. Sure, I could skim through boring stuff quickly if I wanted to but the good stuff should be savored.

Hmmm....sounds like we have a teacher's pet here folks. I wonder if there were any APPLES involved as well. :)

My outfits always coordinated thanks to my mother, I had long, curly, blonde hair (thanks to sponge curlers) and my friends were NOT part of the popular crowd - we were the misfits and I was perfectly content with this - the quirky girls who didn't want to grow up too fast. While the popular, snobby girls were far out on the track fields kissing boys during recess, we were playing dodge ball, line tag, freeze tag, Red Rover, and thought Mad Libs was a hoot and a half. We would also sit in a line and pretend to draw on each other's backs with our fingers. "Going on a treasure hunt..." does anyone remember that one?

I do indeed remember that game, lots of fun as I recall.

While not at school, my close friends and I would explore the houses under construction around our neighborhood, go for treasure hunts in dumps, lock each other in port-a-potties, play in our neighborhood ponding basin and build bridges over the little streams between the ponds, collect tadpoles, and ride our bikes all over creation. We actually would pretend our bikes were horses/pegasus/unicorns and we would name them. Mine was named "Falcon".

I loved unicorns. I was obsessed with the movie The Last Unicorn and actually thought I was one in disguise as a human. It was my explanation for the love of all things mythical and mystical.

And when we would go swimming, we would describe in detail the color of our mermaid tails. This could go on for at least an hour.

It's obvious that your imagination and creativity at even a young age were something special, although locking each other in the port-a-potties, could not have made your moms too happy! LOL

Image

What were you like in jr.high/high school?

In junior high I tried out for colorguard and performing got me over my shy stage. I was in it every year from 7th through 12th grade. We practiced an average of 6-20 hours a week so it was my life. I would call my high school years as the "Golden Age of Colorguard" in Clovis, CA. We competed nationally, brought in instructors from all over the US and had the most elaborate shows with props and tons of different flags as well as rifles, sabres, and anything twirlable.

Image

Love the dramatic hairdos and expressions in this picture!

Image

Colorguard was made up of some funky, quirky girls who didn't give a hoot what the rest of the world thought of them and this was just the right place for me. I wouldn't have changed it for anything else. I think my love for the weird and the dramatic stems from this. So much of my life has been spent around a group of women dressed in funky outfits so I think that's part of why I love costuming and TMs, vampires, etc.

One of my prom dresses was actually modeled after the dress Michelle Pfeiffer (Catwoman) wears in Batman Returns during a ball scene.

Image

Image
Image
Image
Image

Britten, the dress is a purrrr...fect replica of catwoman's and I must say you look stunning in it!

Thank you! Here's the whole scene. LOVE this!

This one for a winter formal had a very vampy collar and I used this design in my future wedding dress:

Image

One of "those" pictures...

Image

Silly and cute at the same time!

I was valedictorian and also in choir and sang at graduation with some fellow choir friends.

I am not surprised in the least that you were valedictorian; the genius behind this entire spotlight area is proof enough for me of your "endless" talents!

Image

Why thank you!

I could not abide judgmental people and still cannot.

I loved to flirt too but only with guys I knew well and who were already my friends.

During my senior year I started drawing fantasy art.

I loved soundtrack music, Enya and Enigma. Still do.

Did you ever date anyone that reminded you of Edward?

Why do you think I always ask the next two questions? LOL!

Yes, I did! Very much so. He was mysterious. Good looking. He sang beautifully. Played the piano. Wrote me a song. Loved trees. Wrote me THE most beautiful love letters. He lived in a remote forest town in the mountains 4 1/2 hours away from me. My heart shattered into a thousand pieces every time he looked at me. He was the EPITOME of goodness. Everything but the vamp and the sparkle, girls. I'm dead serious.

And then one day, he changed and left me without a very clear explanation. I've always thought that Stephenie Meyer nailed Bella's depression in NM so well that she must have gone through something like this herself. After finding out that she didn't, I know now that she was totally inspired. "Forbidden to remember, terrified to forget" - there's not a more perfect phrase to describe it.

Did you ever date anyone that reminded you of Jacob?

Why, yes, I did! He was a total "Jacob". In fact, I'd been friends with him since the 7th grade and he came into the picture right after my "Edward" left. What's even more "Twilight Zone-ish" is that I had a wolf dream right before my "Jacob" and I started dating. In my dream, there was a black wolf chasing me and I knew that this black wolf was the guy I had been dating before (my 'Edward") but in wolf form. Right when he was about to chomp my jugular, a gray wolf jumped into the scene and saved me. I knew he was my friend, my "Jacob", and the other eerie thing was that his last name was Grey, hence him being a gray wolf. And then somewhere in there I was also trying to protecting a little girl, which was a very random character in the dream at the time. This was all back in 1995...before Edward and Jacob ever were a twinkle in Stephenie's or anyone else's eye.

Of course, at the time I didn't call them "my Edward" or "my Jacob", but you can imagine why I went so nuts after reading the Twilight series, especially after New Moon. I kept saying to myself, "Did Stephenie read my journal somehow?" LOL!

But I didn't end up with my "Jacob" either...

Wow, guess I would be too, if that were me! Very eerie and a little nerve rattling how much this parallels Edward and Jacob. Gives me the chills just thinking about it!

Any college attended and if so, what were those days like for you?

Yes. I went to BYU from 94-97. I started out as a math major but thereafter kept switching majors. I took lots and lots of dance classes and coached colorguard at Provo High. I also took some art classes. I hated being away from my family my freshman year but the two years after that were tons of fun.

When we lived in the Belmont Apts, my roommates and I bought this fake skull candelabra for Halloween one year and stuck it in our front window with cobwebs and fake spiders on it. We loved him so much that we didn't want to take him out of the window so we just kept him there all year long and dressed him up for every holiday...

Image

He had an feather Native American headdress on for Thanksgiving.

Image

Hahahaha, love the headdress!

It totally gives me warm fuzzies recalling "Skully". LOL!

He also had: A Santa hat on for Christmas.

A green Irish top hat for St. Patrick's Day.

Rabbit ears for Easter.

A party hat and one of those blower horn thingys in his mouth for a roommates b-day.

And my favorite - just him alone with black hearts all over the window surrounding him for Valentine's Day. Awesome. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of each holiday.

To this day I decorate my own house for each and every holiday. I don't have a skully though. I need to get me another.

May/June is my "Faerie decor month"

How did you meet your husband?

We were BYU FHE brother and sister!! LOL! For those of you not LDS, FHE (Family Home Evening) is like your family away from home at college. A girl apt. is paired up with a guy apt. and you are supposed to plan and carry out an activity once a week together like visit a nursing home, play a ball game, etc. There's an appointed "mom and dad" of the group who are in charge and plan the activities. While I'm typing this it sounds really creepy but it sooooo is not. It's the opposite of creepy...most of the time....LOL!

Anyway, when I met him I thought he was boring and rude.

He thought I was loud and obnoxious.

And because we were in the same FHE group we had to tolerate each other at least once a week.

Then something changed and he asked me out, which was a total shock and surprise to me because I had never even considered going out with him or even liking him. Hahah!

Then we saw different sides of each other and I just knew, like I know the sun will rise each morning, that I was supposed to be with him. Sort of Pride and Prejudice -ish.

Love the analogy, so true!!!

Image

Ooohhh, Britten, you looked lovely on your wedding day. What a beautiful bride you made!

Why, thank you!

In high school he was a very flirty jock/band geek who was a good ol' Yakima, WA boy who lived to hunt and fish. Now he's a computer geek who enjoys playing Dungeons and Dragons.

So, girls.....after my "Edward" flew the coop and my "Jacob" ran off with one of his distant cousins, this "Bella" ended up with her "Mike Newton" and even though every now and then I'd like to flog him over the head with a 2x4, I love my "average joe" to bits and pieces. ♥

Let's hear it for Team Newton! LOL!

True, forever love, finds itself sometimes in the most unlikliest of places Britten!

Those mythical creatures are just not all their cracked up to be anyway. ;-)

Although, I have to say he does tease me like Edward teases Bella...so there's that.

You can imagine my anxiety while reading Eclipse - I kept thinking both Edward and Jacob were going to die or it was all going to be some weird dream and she would end up with Mike Newton. LOL!

It happens. Just sayin'.

Names, ages and accomplishments of children....

Kaiya is 10 and in the 4th grade. She loves to read and loves animals and anything to do with animals. She is currently taking English horse riding lessons and doing the horse program for 4-H. She is maturing into a very responsible young lady, much to the relief of her mom and dad. She struggled with anxiety issues when she was younger.

Image
Image

Trooper is just about to turn 8 and is in the 2nd grade. He's very good at math and loves to run, run, run. Next year he will be old enough to do track but meanwhile he plays flag football in the fall. He also loves Star Wars - that's my boy!!

Image
Image

Arienna is 3. She is feisty, will eat nothing but chocolate milk most days, and is totally obsessed with Yo Gabba Gabba. She can also point out anything to do with Twilight. Go figure...

Image

She also has a blankie she cannot be without much like I did when I was her age. It even smells like my old blankie and every now and then I have to take my own sniffy "drag" of her blankie. We sniff it together and it calms us both. It's awesome.

Image

Britten, your children, are adorably sweet, just like their mom! You are blessed with a beautiful family, my dear!

Thank you!

Any pets?

A whole begaggle of them.

3 dogs - all with Star Wars names.

Vader,

Image

Camie (yes, this is a Star Wars name. There was a scene deleted from A New Hope where Luke actually gets to go to the Toshi station to pick up some power converters and he meets his friends there, one of which is a girl named Camie) Just thought I would reassure everyone in case you were a little concerned for me... LOL!

Image

and our new orange-haired dog, Rogue 2 (cuz of those orange jumpsuits the Rebel pilots wear)

Image

2 cats - not with Star Wars names

a brown tabby named Cleo (short for Cleopatra)

Image

and a fluffy orange cat named Trick or Treat (from my love of all things Halloween) who curiously confines herself to the garage most days. She's so skiddish, this is the only decent picture I could get of her. Most of the time she's up to her no good "tricks" but sometimes she'll give you a "treat" and let you cuddle her.

Image

2 betas - currently unnamed

Wow! now that is what I call a Full House!!! Love the Star Wars names too!

Describe your life now using 3 adjectives.

Full, Funky, Real

What are your current hobbies, interests, etc?

Those of you who read my blog know what my interests are from my profile. Current hobbies are my blog, TMs (even though it's a job, i also think of it as a hobby) and creating and dreaming up things for my shop on etsy, The Black Pumpkin, which will hopefully open up officially at the end of June/beginning of July and I'm also going to be at the TM booth at TwiCon with some of my items. For a preview, you can go to my shop here: www.theblackpumpkin.etsy.com .

I'm working on a line of Twilight character and Faerie sketches and/or paintings as well as my own original Halloweenish characters that can be enjoyed all throughout the year. There will be prints available of all this plus, softies and hair clips of my Halloween-ish characters.

I'm also doing fun felt pillows, hand sculpted clay pendants, quilled cards, ornaments, etc....

My goodness girl, do you EVER find time for sleeping? Didn't I tell you all that she was something super special???

What are your goals for the future?

One of my dreams is to travel through Europe. Most of all, Italy.

Getting my shop up and running.

Eventually to live in one of these houses: http://www.storybookhomes.biz/

Find balance in all things.

Make sure my kids end up with a good head on their shoulders and love in their hearts.

What is your professional background?

Here's a list of my past jobs:

Guest services at a water park for 3 years
Colorguard coach for 8 years
Sales clerk/designer at a home decor and gift/antique shop for 3 years
Currently in my 4th year as a Sales Rep for Broadway Cheerleading/Albion Knittings Mills - busy seasons are the spring and fall, most of all the month of May - that's why I had to take last month off of my TM duties.

Image

Where did you frequent on the net before finding us?

TheForce.net and Star Wars.com, baby! My first real movie obsession was Star Wars. Hence all these geeked out pics:

Now, how did I know that you were going to say that??? I would never have guessed Britten that you had a love of Star Wars! Hahahahaha

Image

Also Live Journal and the blog world.

What is your most embarrassing moment?

In grade school I went to the top of the jungle gym in a dress and some boy standing down at the bottom of the jungle gym started laughing and pointing at me cuz he "saw my underwear".

Then in jr. high, all my friends wanted me to kiss my boyfriend at the end of a field trip we had just had at this water park (same one I ended up working at) and so everyone was staring at us as we were saying goodbye and I chickend out and kissed him on the cheek. It would have been my first kiss ever. I was NOT going to have my first kiss be in front of a bunch of people. NO WAY!! This boy was not my "Edward" or "Jacob" or "Mike", mind you.....

There's no Twilight character name for him. Let's call him "John Doe".

However, there was also an Erik....but not like the Erik from Twilight.....

Aw, c'mon, we would love it if you would just "kiss and tell" us his name.......? ;)

haha. Moving on...

As the brainchild behind the entire spotlight forum, from where did you draw you inspiration for this wonderful area?

Well, I started our vendor forum after scouring the net and local stores for vampire-like items in early 2008 when there was almost NOTHING Twilightish to buy. Then along came a seller called Signs and Salvage. They seemed very cute, very organized and ready to sell their wares on Etsy so I bought a sign from them. Their service was so friendly that I wanted to feature them in some way so I asked THE Lisa if this was something she would want to do and I told her I would be in charge of it. It would be my baby. So she agreed and I got started. She also suggested we feature a charity of the month and a TM of the month. We had talked about affiliating with a charity earlier with the dream that we could host big Twilight charity events so this seemed like a good place to start. We also thought that giving back to the members with Vendor of the Month and TM of the Month would be a great thing. Then with all the celebrity interviews we were doing at the time, I thought it would be cool to feature a Twilight related music artist every now and then because my music library had tripled ever since discovering Twilight and I didn't want that to go to waste.

Well, I for one look forward each month to seeing what new and exciting people and things are now gracing the Spotlight Section, thanks to you. Your hardwork, creativity and diligence has certainly paid off Britten; this is a wonderful section of the forum that you have created. Kudos to you!!!

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?

My oldest will be in college, my son just graduating from high school and my youngest in junior high. If I make it through all that without checking myself into a mental hospital, it's all good.

Hopefully I won't be wheeling "the Mike" around in a wheel chair but time will tell. (No, not because I flogged him one too many times with a 2x4. He's got a bad back...very bad. Not good.)

Your energy level and creative imput on TMs is something that your fellow administrators marvel at all the time. Are you like this with your family as well?

You know, I don't think of myself as an energized person but now that you mention it, I guess I am. Haha!

I truly believe the energizer bunny was modeled after you!

And sadly, no....most of the time I am not like this with my family. I was when I was first married with one kid but not so much anymore. Why? Well, because I thrive on friendship. My friends are my batteries and my family drains my batteries most of the time. I love them with my heart and soul but lets face it - most of the time it's hard work and my friends are NEVER hard work. Half the time, my kids don't like my ideas or my husband thinks my idea is great but doesn't have the physical capacity to help me carry it out so most of my ideas at home hit a dead end. With TMs however, I get to finally see my ideas come to life and this is such an awesome feeling!!

I'm actually just reteaching myself how to be creative with the family again and really figure out what works for them and for all of us. It takes so much more brain power. Why is that?

Any current books you are reading?

Rebecca by Daphne de Mauer -One of my own personal favorites!

Fairest by Gail Carson Levine

Name one thing you believe to be unique about you.

One thing? Who the heck made up this question?

Oh, yeah...someone slap me, please! LOL!

I'm going to say the balance of lightness and darkness. ♥

And a wonderful balance it truly is!! You pull it off smashingly well!

What's one thing you thought you'd always do or be but never have?

Hahah! This is a good one....I thought I would live in this huge castle-like mansion that was decked to the nines with crazy stuff in a Tim Burton meets the Labyrinth Ball meets The Secret Garden meets Phantom of the Opera type style. Is that description enough? Hahha! I was even going to get tons of mannequins and dress them up like life-size faeries and put them all over my house. I wanted lots of fabric everywhere too. Tons of billowy, blowing-in-the-breeze fabric hanging. Statues in the garden, lots of statues that look like they could be friends from long ago frozen in time. And flowers everywhere. Lots of climbing vines. I wanted to grow and raise all my own food. Have secret passage ways all over the house. And host huge masquerade balls in my very own ball room.

Dreams are always wonderful to have, they are the goals that keep us motivated!

I'm also a little crazy. That explains a lot, doesn't it?

But seriously. I really did think I would do all this and I still sorta do but real things like lack of money seem to be cramping my style.

I also thought I would be one of those moms that made all this fancy stuff to eat every day and did a bunch of crafts with the kids all the time. Hahhaha....

But for now, I just live in a hobbit-like cottage. It will do....for now.

What is the inside of your house like? Decorated? Organized? Spotless? Messy? Cluttered? Can't see the floor? Can't find the children or pets?

Oh, it's decorated. I LOVE to decorate!

But...

Can't see the floor at least once a week. Plus it is very hard to keep the animal hair under control. Most of the time it is WAY out of control.

I try to stay organized but with a small house and 3 kids (4 if you include the Mike, I mean Andy =) ) it is muy difficult at times. Mostly it is cluttered and chaotic, unless I spend a whole weekend cleaning. But I have to say that I kinda like clutter, organized clutter = cozy. =)

It's a scaled down version of my dream home (see above). There are faeries everywhere - they are just smaller and I didn't make them myself.

Image
This is just one of the many, but she is the one that start the whole mannequin faerie idea.

Image
My Shielou necklaces are displayed like fine art and mostly because I don't want them to get crushed in my drawer.

Image
Guest bathroom.

There are hobbit-like stacks of books and magazines everywhere - visual or imagined adventures waiting to be had.

Image
Image

It's a little bit french country with black and white polka dots in the kitchen, old fashioned with ads from 1950s, vintage appeal, with some old world accents as well.

Just love the Darth Vader Vase! Now that is something you don't see everyday!

My craft room/office is a work in progress, but I've started collecting softies/plushies from some of the etsy vendors.

That is amazing!!! It really is a tribute to Twilight and Stephenie Meyer. I am in love with those Twilight Blocks, so creative!!!

Those Twilight Blocks are from an upcoming Vendor of the Month so stay tuned!

What is the one thing you love best about TwilightMOMS?

100% the friends I've made. Before I read Twilight and before I met all my TM friends I was truly going mad thinking there was no one out there like me. I was praying to find others who not only shared my sense of humor but also my passion, who I could become close friends with. I think my prayers were answered 100 fold. I feel like God said, "Oh, boy! Do I have a great gift in store for you!" Then I met Lisa (who happened to grow up in the same remote mountain town as my "Edward" did, come to find out) and the rest is history.

Small world, you say? Coinsidence?

I don't think so.

So once I found Twilight, my Edward did come back, if only in a figurative sort of way. And he brought lots of lovely, kindred spirited women with him...my angels. ♥

Some things are truly made from destiny and fate; It was meant to be Britten and we are so happy that we got to make friends with you as well. It's truly a win-win situation!

Britten, thank you so much for allowing us into your, family, home, and heart. You are truly an inspiration to us all, not to mention that I am exhausted just listening to all that you do. I am honored and proud to be called your friend! Congratulations to you, and may there be many, many more years ahead filled with the rays of sunshine you bring!

Now, is it just me, or are you looking a bit Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer in this photo?

You know, lots of people who have only ever seen my pictures online have said I look like Buffy, which, by the way, thank you! It's the perfect compliment you could give me because she is my absolute FAVORITE female hero of all time!!!

However, my friends who have seen me in person don't really see it. :lisa: Whatev...

But yes, I definitely got the Season 1 Buffy bangs going on, don't I? LOL!
